“There is no fucking way I’m going to the conference with him.” Romany Belle crossed her arms and glared at her boss. Was he mad? She didn’t want to cross to the other side of the room with Macnair Palmer let alone go away on a conference with the man.
“I can hear you.” Mac stood at her side, a small grin on his lips.
“That’s the point. I wanted you to.” The man was an irritating pain in the ass, who had, of late, been making her working life hell.
Gene Kline, head of Kline, Smith, Wagner Engineering, looked back and forth between them. “What’s the problem?”
“He is.”
“She is.”
Am not. What a prick. Why were the most attractive men always the most annoying? “Gee, I think it all started with his email indicating all the workers in my department were incompetent.” In a workforce of five, maybe two of them needed some additional help on understanding their jobs, but Romany was working on that.
“They are.”
“And that I should be sacked.” That’s what had really annoyed her. What in the hell did he know about me and how I work? He was an engineer. She was in administration. Neither had any reason to deal with the other. But ever since the funds for the latest projects had stalled, Macnair Palmer had decided it was her department’s fault because they'd filed and maintained paperwork on all funding received. But it wasn’t admin's fault the paperwork had been filled out incorrectly. One of his engineers had done that. Mac's accusation had started off a war between the two areas.
Mac shook his head. “I never said you should lose your job.”
Romany turned and glared at Mac. Tall, dark hair, blue eyes, and full of himself. “No, that’s true. I believe the terminology you used was more along the lines of I should ‘have my position re-evaluated.’”
“Yes, I did say that but—”
“Same as saying I should be sacked.” She waved her hand in dismissal of him. If only it was that easy.
