"My story about Skeeter is based on my grandson who, at the beginning, was five years old. I went to live with him and his parents in Kentucky. I was keenly aware of my own children's idiosyncrasies and watching my grandson on a daily basis I saw the little Currmies going around in his head. How little children get to be heard, seen in action, and how they find ways to get adults to notice them can be tricky but I think children are so remarkable and they say and do funny things. The Currmies are thoughts that go around in the heads of children! Currmies are short for Curmudgeons. Curmudgeons are irritable and grouchy by definition; in children they can be irritable and funny at the same time. Children can look grouchy just before they break out in laughter!"
