Two years ago an impossible fire raged in the city. The home of the city's fabled protector was burning bright in the dead of night. The very building that had withstood both siege and dragons time and time again, was reduced to nothing but a smoldering ruin. It was the night when the city's protector vanished without a single trail: presumed dead in the fire. During the chaos that ensued from the fire, a local drunkard claims to have seen a shape of a five year old girl with rat on her shoulder dragging a boy out of the fire. How these three unknown survivors had fled from the flames and vanished into the darkness of the night. But as these three were never seen or heard again, the drunkard's tale was soon all but forgotten.
Yet the boy bound in darkness, the girl basking in light, and the old rat with a heart's longing for gold still live on hiding as their actions continue to cause small ripples. Ripples that under the right circumstances could lead to a wave of events unforseen.
