This is the story about an eight man squad of men within a Roman legion on the very edge of the empire. There are no heroes or senior officers vying for greatness or ultimate power, there are no beautiful women .

This is just the story of eight low ranked common soldiers. Their everyday lives and struggles as the serve their twenty years under the Eagle

We meet them on the march, a new legion, formed from two depleted legions, not yet sure of friends or who can be trusted, yet they know that the direction in which they are travelling will lead them to the very frontier of the empire and into a war.

Although the story is fictional I have made every effort to get the weapons armour, ranks, language and tactics correct

This novel also contains many scenes of violence, (graphic descriptions of what iron weapons can do to un-armoured flesh), rape and sack. It is also littered with foul language as every soldier through history can testify that this is the way soldiers speak and I make no apology for its inclusion.

A full glossary is included in the back of the book for some of the more obscure titles and ranks.
