A little girl with a photographic memory has experiences of God, angels and helping spirits as she endures sexual, physical, emotional and mental violence in her home. Raising poignant questions about the keen awareness of children, this book details the remarkable journey of an intelligent and intuitively gifted girl who stays alive and connected to her spiritual self, but loses that connection in her despair to live in a broken world. As she grows into a woman, she finds the strength to fight her way back to the light. Detailing her experiences without judgment or blame but with a keen eye of observation and understanding, the author shares an inspiring story of finding her way home to herself and to a joyous life. With practical suggestions as well as jaw dropping insights, Soul Compost is a heartfelt, moving and courageous book. First in the "Woman, Awake Series" by Licia Berry, a series that details five stages of her healing adventure. www.LiciaBerry.com "When I was very little, I used my voice. I asked questions, I spoke about my experience, I vocalized my opinion. My throat as my center of expression was open until I was about three and a half. I was shut down at that age, as many of us are. A cage was made and my throat was the first part of me that went into it. My voice was perhaps the first casualty of the abuse. "As an adult and woman who is determined to use her voice in the world, I have to constantly keep my throat open. The temptation to shut it down is innate, strong, as if my life depends on it. "I was guided recently to go inward for mediation, and had an experience that set things right for my voice. In my inner vision, I saw my voice as a bird: "The bird in my throat wants to fly. It beats against the cage with its wings. My fear wants to tell the great bird to go to sleep. Goodness, it is a big bird. A giant bird. How on earth did it fit in that little cage? It must be so uncomfortable, so tight. It is here that I see that the great bird in my throat is an Eagle. The ferocity with which it meets my eyes is unmistakable. It WILL be heard. I fumble with the latch of the cage, and the great Eagle rushes the door as fast as I can open it. It pushes past me and alights, towering, by my side. It begins to screech like it has been silent for 5000 years; it screeches and calls and screams as if to break open the world with the sound. I am completely in awe of its voice and its powerful determination to speak. I make a vow to never ask this immense, warrior-like creature to step into the cage again. In fact, inspired by its ferocity, I pick up a giant sledgehammer and destroy the cage, watching as the pieces fly and scatter to the four winds. The Great Eagle observes my actions, approving with its proud eyes. This bird is free." Copyright "Soul Compost - Transforming Adversity into Spiritual Growth" by Licia Berry, 2012.
