Raul, freed from subservience to his sadistic half-brother, is on his way to the New World as both an official of the family enterprise and a special envoy from the King of Spain to the territory of Florida. He arrives in Saint Augustine as the capital city restores itself following the attack by Sir Francis Drake in 1586 in which the town was nearly destroyed. Stefano, his long-lost love of many years proved not to be all Raul’s memory envisaged and Raul is now intimately involved with Raphael and Paulo as the need arises.

The inauguration of Raul’s new quarters, the rehabilitated former Viceroyalty, presents an opportunity to break the monotony of life in Saint Augustine with an elaborate fancy-dress ball. Stefano’s behavior both before and at the ball is seriously inappropriate for the mores of the colonial city and attracts unwanted attention to Raul and his coterie, including Raphael who has returned to his life of exchanging sexual favors for money.

After Raul’s cleverly staged wedding to Helene, a slip by a member of Raphael’s stable of young men creates a perilous situation and threatens not only Raul’s happiness but also his life. Raul’s lover Paulo and wife Helene pit their wits together to resolve the desperate matter in the climax of the final book in the Spanish Seductions Series.
