You cant pick your family thats fact. If it were a choice as to the family I would choose, I knew no different than the hand that was dealt to me. What happens to you in the past is in the past and does not have to predict the future or define who you become. There was abuse, brutality, control, anger, and MORE importantly alcohol, was the name of the game for my stepfather, or at least thats what he thinks.
As my Mother lay in her casket, I take comfort in knowing that she is in a much better place than the day-to-day nightmare she lived through.
As for myself, I did everything in my power to believe real love existed and was out there for me. Having a family of my own to love and nurture was somewhere and I knew in my heart that God had a plan.
