Reporter Harry Sinclair hears rumours that political talk show host David Arden uses his contacts to line his pockets. Sinclair has no use for big egos and questionable ethics so he decides to explore the media star's world. Before long the reporter finds a connection between Arden and the suspicious death of an art dealer.

Meanwhile Sinclair gets wind of the impending visit to the city by anti-poverty activist Robert Baldwin. He wants an interview with the increasingly influencial Baldwin, especially in light of the fact that Arden and his colleagues do their best to ignore him.

Sinclair meets Catherine Bradshaw, a colleague of Arden's, that wants to see him exposed. She has suffered at the hands of the high powered journalist and is willing to risk her own career to get even. Together they find the unexpected truth behind the death of the art dealer.

They also find out that Arden is not the big shot he appears to be. Others are pulling his strings and Sinclair learns how dangerous these people can be. He finally secures the Baldwin interview only to discover the true meaning of the words, no good deed goes unpunished.
