A PERSONAL NOTE FROM THE ARTIST My initi al inspirati on to draw and sketch came from my father, an arti st and oil painter who taught me how to sketch at an early age. I learned to quick sketch while studying architecture abroad in Spain since I didnt have a camera. I discovered that sketching, rather than photographing, allowed me the ability to retain the image and memory of the moment indefi nitely. Aft er leaving architecture to pursue a career in development and constructi on, my sketch book sat idle for years. Upon joining Studley in 2000, and having the opportunity to travel the world via the annual Winter Trip, the inspirati on to sketch was reborn. The blank sketchbook my father gift ed to me before he passed away, and the Winter Trips fueled my inspirati on to express myself with the pen. My preference for sketching on linen dates back to my college days in Spain when I did not have a formal sketchbook and I would sketch on anything I could fi nd. Because we dined out quite a bit, table clothes and bar napkins were an easy target. My linen napkin sketches evolved over the years into the Numero Uno drawing I do every year for the top-performing broker in our company.
