Chapter 1
Hillary Clinton came to terms with the fact that Barack Obama won the 2008 primaries after her long and grueling campaign to win the primaries herself. She met with him and he asked her how he could win over her supporters. Clinton told him it would take time. When she made her final campaign appearances, she urged her supporters to back Barack Obama in the upcoming election. Clinton then gave a speech at the National Democratic Convention, formally nominating Obama as the Democratic presidential candidate.
A short time after the election, President-Elect Obama met with Clinton and asked her to accept the position of Secretary of State within his administration. Clinton took some time to think about it. Clinton had many concerns about taking the job, including her love for her job as Senator from New York and her sense of loyalty to her supporters, but felt that when her president asked her to do something, it was her duty to do so. In the end, Clinton accepted the job.
