In this Novel, Mr. Krueger tries to address ultimate mysteries thus it affects the readers in ways that are unusual and interesting. The story begins in south Minnesota in a small community in the year 1963, where there is death that begins with the death of a male child who is killed in a railroad tracks. This is narrated by a white male adult who goes by the name, Frank. He recalls how the events of summer when he was still young 13 years ago, a teenager. With the death of the child, a motion of events is set in and suppressed attitudes are revealed and how they bring alteration of people’s lives and their future in the town.
Among those whore are affected include the rich, wealth and important people in the society, as well as the ordinary people. Therefore, the people in this novel are supposed to come to terms to either great or less degree, by accepting who they are and learn how they should relate with their family members, friends and members of their religion or faith. Frank learns during that summer about interpreting the evil and the grace during that period, and this would likely affect him the rest of his life.
The author of this novel’s writing is strong, smooth and logic about the plot, and is therefore not difficult to follow. Although the story comprises of several layers, the passages are not convoluted nor are they tricky to readers, they are easy to interpret without much difficulties.
