What counsel does President Gordon B. Hinckley have for missionaries? What has he taught about the Atonement? How does he feel about the Prophet Joseph Smith? What has he said to parents of the Church, to youth, to students, to priesthood holders? Teachings of Gordon B. Hinckley brings together in one volume a broad collection of the exhortations and insights of a great leader. Arranged alphabetically by topic for easy reference, the entries come from a variety of published and unpublished sources. Every page of this collection is infused with President Hinckley's energy, his optimism, and his characteristic straightforward style. Here are samples of what you'll find in the book:

Aging
Age is more a matter of how you feel, how you think, and what's going on in your head than what's going on in your eet—although I wouldn't want to be challenged to a foot race this morning. (Colorado Springs Young Adult Meeting, April 14, 1996.)

Holy Ghost
There is no greater blessing that can come into our lives than the gift of the Holy Ghost—the companionship of the Holy Spirit to guide us, protect us, and bless us, to go, as it were, as a pillar before us and a flame to lead us in paths of righteousness and truth. That guiding power of the third member of the Godhead can be ours if we live worthy of it. (Boston Massachusetts Regional Conference, priesthood leadership session, April 22, 1995.)

Literacy
You know that your children will read. They will read books and they will read magazines and newspapers. Cultivate within them a taste for the best. While they are very young, read to them the great stories which have become immortal because of the virtues they teach. Expose them to good books. Let there be a corner somewhere in your house, be it ever so small, where they will see at least a few books of the kind upon which great minds have been nourished. ('Opposing Evil,' Ensign, November 1975, p. 39.)

Missionary Work
One cannot think of the hundreds of millions who have never heard of this work without wondering how our charge to teach all mankind can ever be accomplished. There are nations where we presently cannot legally go. We honor and obey the laws of these nations. But if we will be both alert and patient, the Lord will open the way in the appropriate season. His is the timetable. ('We Have a Work to Do,' Ensign, February 1988, p. 6.)

Temple: Temple Building
We have been criticized for the cost of [temples], a cost which results from the exceptional quality of the workmanship and the materials that go into them. Those who criticize do not understand that these houses are dedicated as the abode of Deity and, as Brigham Young stated, are to stand through the Millennium. ('This Peaceful House of God,' Ensign, May 1993, p. 74.)
