Barry Eric Odell Pain (Sep 28, 1864 - May 5, 1928) was an English journalist, poet and writer. Born in Cambridge, and educated at the university, he became a prominent contributor to "The Granta". He was known as a writer of parody and lightly humorous stories. The 9.43 is a short story by Barry Pain, included in “Eliza”. The story follows an English couple, planning to visit St. Paul’s Cathedral. The train they were planning to take supposed to leave at 9.43. Or at 9.53. A seemingly meaningless mistake is all that it takes to start another comic and absurd argument with Eliza. Will the couple make it to the train in time?
