Nina Monroe thought the only good thing out of this deal with Lucas Kane was the man himself. She was not really cut out for all these glamorous events she was obliged to attend as his plus one—her body definitely not one for the designer dresses, her patience not enough to deal with his groupies.
But when she trod on the foot of his client's daughter, would indulgent Lucas turn on her?

"I giggled, and I was good at that, if I say so myself," I continued, smiling again when I saw him grinning. "I said it was silly but normal for people who are in love."
He froze and I felt my heart jump.
"What's normal?"
"Uh, for people in love to be silly."
I watched his profile for a few breathless seconds and then Lucas nodded, resuming his ministration.
"I didn't say anything wrong, did I?" I asked. "We agreed that that was the story, right?"
"Of course." He looked thoughtful and I didn't realize for a while that his hand had strayed up my thigh, massaging gently until I gave a contented sigh.
"So," I said, rueful that my voice had turned mildly hoarse. "That was what I said to Heather."
"I see."
"Were you ever...? You know, you two?" I suddenly remembered I never asked; I had simply assumed Heather to be one of the groupies. But maybe they had some history.
He looked up, one hand cradling my calf. "If you were me, would you date her?"
I blinked. "I don't know. I'm not you, that's why I ask."
There was a look I thought as impatience on his face but again when he answered, his voice sounded as calm as always. "No, we weren't."
"I thought she was your type."
"My type. Huh," he slid a hand up my leg, still looking serious and focused with his massage when I had goosebumps from his touch. "Is that what you think my type is?"
"Well, all your previous girlfriend kind of look like her. Oh—"
It always thrilled and flustered me when Lucas just hauled me off and placed me on his lap, like I weighed nothing. The hand that had been sliding up was now high up under my dress, caressing my naked thigh.
"You did a research on my previous girlfriends then?"
"I didn't!" I said. "Well, I looked them up. Just curious."
"And you think they're all with me, at one time, because of how they look."
"Uh..." I hesitated. Lucas' hand had now strayed up my bare arm, slowly caressing my trembling form. "I don't know. I—I thought..."
"They were women that gravitated toward me. I didn't have time to socialize with more."
It was a strange explanation, but I couldn't really focus now that his treacherous hand was gently pulling down the strap of my dress.
Nancy had told me not to wear a bra with this dress and now I was not so sure how I felt about obeying her. I watched Lucas' eyes grew darker when he pulled down the top of my dress.
