Have you ever gone camping? Yes? No? Maybe?
We aren't talking about those endless trips you took as a child where you slept in the back seat of your parents car from destination to destination with your brothers smelly feet digging into your shoulder.
We are talking about real camping. Sleeping outdoors or in a tent, cooking your food over a campfire or cook stove while listening to a stream bubbling along nearby.
Nothing compares with waking in the morning to the freshest air you've ever inhaled and the smell of wood smoke permeating that air. Something about camping also makes your taste buds come alive!
Everything you eat or drink impacts your senses like no fast food can ever hope to. Coffee is the first drink in the morning and tastes much better than a latte at your local barista. Absolutely no comparison!
What is the best tool you have to insure a pleasant a rewarding camping experience? We are not talking about the best tent that money can buy. We are not talking about the fluffiest down-filled sleeping bags.
A true story. . .
Let's take a look at Joe. Joe is a young man trying out his adult wings. He takes three friends and they set off to go camping at a popular nearby lake.
They have no tent, but they do have sleeping bags and decide that they can just sleep under the stars. They have no cook stove but figure out they will cook hot dogs on a stick over an open fire (for a week)!
No condiments for their hot dogs, no sunscreen despite 90 degree weather, they take one change of clothing and forget a spare pair of shoes. The list goes on but you get the drift.
These folks climb into Joe's little compact car, wave to Joe's parents and off they go for a memorable Memorial Day Weekend.
The next morning Joe's Dad gets the phone call. Joe is having trouble with his car, can you please come and help us out. Two hours later Dad arrives with his four wheel drive truck.
The not so happy campers are sunburned within an inch of their lives, Joe's car is buried above the wheel wells and there's no way he can pull them out without getting buried himself. So they call a local tow company.
Okay, this true story could go on forever. Suffice it to say that if Joe had spent just one or two minutes in planning he would realize that because of recent drought conditions the lake was seriously below the average depth.
This creates a much larger beach area but the beach was too recently underwater. Therefore. . .? Yep, what Joe attempted to drive on was not a compacted surface. Joe learned a valuable lesson that day.
What is the lesson?
The best tool Joe had available but didn't use was planning. Yep, simple as it may sound you might be surprised at how many people haven't a clue how to prepare for a camping trip.
Okay, so how does one plan for a perfect camping experience? Glad you asked. All Joe needed was a little education. There is good news, however.
