Deep in the heart of the Carpathian Mountains, in Transylvania, lies an castle. This castle was once home to a nobleman who, it is claimed, warred with the church, bound his servants with a curse of silence, and ruled his lands with a grip of iron. Fortunately for modern-day visitors, Lord John Erdely has been dead for centuries and his castle now a haven for tourists. Or so, at least, is the claim.

Each visitor to a local hotel receives a fancy invitation--they're invited on a free tour and paranormal investigation. When a freak storm hits, forcing the visitors to overnight in Lord Erdely's castle, the tourists learn that Erdely's power is not limited merely to ancient fairy tales.

Under the editorial direction of Lea Schizas, six authors tell what happens to the visitors. In A Visitor from the Past, Carol A. Cole writes of a second honeymoon in the romantic mountains of Transylvania. In Divine Curse, Kristin Johnson wonders whether the Medieval Church's reaction to Lord Erdely might have been caused by his sexual tastes. In By the Light of the Moon, Kevin R. Tipple explains what happens to those who learn too much of the Carpathian castle's secrets. In Thicker than Stone, Christina Barber's tourist discovers a new and unexpected career choice. Seana Graham's Scholar learns that current lives may reflect those of the long-dead. In Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, Donna Amato realizes that evil is not limited to the dead.

Fans of contemporary fantasy will want to check out this exciting collaboration, the second in the Carpathian Shadows series.
