The action takes place in the near future in the underground subway and sewer system of a major cosmopolitan city, where above ground, a revolution has just broken out. Bow-Wow, an emigrant from Eastern Europe, is sitting underground, waiting for his buddy, ABC, an ex-soldier, to show up with their daily fix, when their usual abject routine is interrupted by the appearance of a big box which falls down from above. Soon after they are kidnapped by Candy and Donna, who have just gotten out of a psychiatric hospital. The women order Bow-Wow and ABC to carry the box, and together they proceed through the underworld. Their journey is broken up by burlesque-like visions from the past and by the divine intervention of angels and genies. But, as ABC put it: "First, I want answers to all these questions! Why are we carrying this box? Where is it from? And where the hell are we really going?"
