Brant Gordon was a lonely man, living in the middle of nowhere taking care of his farm, when he kept seeing a woman gathering wood. At first, he thought he was going loco and seeing things. No one lived close by him, so how could a woman be out there all alone? Determined to try to talk to her, she escaped him every time he got close, disappearing among the trees. She only had a shawl to keep her warm and it was the middle of winter. He felt it his Christian duty to try and help her, if he could capture her.

Faith's life was a difficult one. She didn't trust men, especially after her pa threw her out in town. When her little brother escaped from their pa and found her, she knew she had to take care of Butch. When the man who lived on the farm where she was stealing milk and eggs kept trying to catch her, she was terrified he'd hurt her or Butch, but she was more terrified of her pa finding them. Christmas was the season for miracles and Butch and her sure needed one in the worst way or they might perish before winter was over.
