Mearah is charged to battle Lord Syba—half-brother of Alptor, Ruler of the Council of Forty — on Ashiba so the world can come out of enchantment. Bealor and Kathryn realize that their lives are a continuation of the past. Mearah banishes Syba to the ocean’s depth. Freed temporarily, Syba hunts down Kathryn since her death would end his banishment. During their confrontation, Kathryn kills Syba and Bealor whisks Kathryn away.
