Organisations create a myriad of dependencies. We rely on them for an income and therefore our financial futures. The role we play in them provides status amongst our colleagues, friends and family. They act as a rich seam to be tapped for our social pleasure with like-minded individuals. They give us purpose, as we develop our knowledge and skills to be the best that we can be and to hopefully secure that promotion, leading to a greater role and greater status. However, for many people the impact of the organisation on their lives is not a positive experience. The organisation may well provide an income and help satisfy their basic needs, but the arbitrary nature of the interrelationships within them and thus the inconsistency in approach more often creates an organisation that undermines an individual's wellbeing.
