The Flame-Haired Woman is the second novel in a Highland trilogy by Mhari Matheson following on from the Tinker Girl.
With the advent of The Great War, the end of a tumultuous relationship, a marriage of convenience, the closure of her beloved distillery and the disappearance of her son, Cate McAllister finds herself battling all over again.
This story has its roots in the final years of Queen Victoria’s reign, with the birth of Cate, a tinker girl who is believed to be an orphan. In this, the second book of the trilogy, we return to the small community on the West Coast of Scotland, where Cate, after years of wandering and hard-fought battles, has become the owner of the community distillery. Marriage, love, heartbreak and a son with whom she has a fractious relationship, along with unexpected friendships, have allowed her to gather a ‘family’ in her home, Craigavon, in Kevinishe.
