In the first novel of the series, CHIP OF THE FLYING U, All of the boys at the Flying U grumbled -- among themselves -- when they heard that the Old Man's sister was coming to spend the summer. They didn't want a woman at the ranch, and certainly not one who had just received a medical degree! B.M. Bower (Bertha Muzzy Sinclair, 1871-1940) was an American western author.  Born in Minnesota and raised in Montana Territory, Bower experienced the final years of the western frontier first-hand.  Taking the pen name B.M. Bower, she began to publish westerns when she was thirty.  She eventually wrote more than fifty during her career.
