This book is a part of the “Series of Islamic Principles” by Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih Al-Uthaymin. This Series is directed to the general Muslims, compassing of a very easy and simple language, but with a strong content. It serves for a Muslim’s fundamental needs wherever he may be. In this series the author carefully relies on the Book of Allah, the authentic Sunnah of His Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him), and the sayings of the famous scholars, so that it may illuminate the path of guidance for the one who seeks it.
“The Forty Hadiths of An Nawai” is a compilation of forty hadiths by Imam an Nawai, most of which are from Sahih Muslim and Sahih al-Bukhari. This collection of hadith has been chiefly esteemed over the centuries because it is a refinement, by one of the most eminent and revered authorities in Islamic jurisprudence, of the foundations of Islamic sacred law or Shariah. In putting together this collection, it was the author's explicit aim that each hadith is a great foundation of the religion, described by the religious scholars as being ‘the axis of Islam’.
Its significance lay in the fact that these selected forty hadiths comprise the main essential and fundamental concepts of Islam which, in turn, construct the minimum level of required revealed knowledge for every single Muslim. Various principles are contained in these hadiths, such as belief, Muslim ethics and fiqh. As such, it is very important to have a good understanding of these hadiths based on scholarly interpretations. In addition, these commentaries also try to offer discussions on related contemporary issues pertaining to certain concepts mentioned in these hadiths.
