A classic of Danish literature available as an ebook for the first time.

When their mother drowns, young brothers Fritz and Adolf are sold into the circus by their grandmother, for a mere twenty marks. There they suffer under the cruel hand of Father Cecchi but are befriended by sisters Aimée and Louise and together they create an acrobatic act.

When Cecchi dies and the circus disbands, the quartet find there is little demand for acrobats and they refine their skills, re-emerging at The Four Devils, death-defying trapeze artists. Soon they are the talk of Europe, flying high from one city to another.

But one of the Four Devils, Aimée, finds that her feelings for Fritz have outgrown that of a sibling love and become a passion that pervades her every waking moment. So when Fritz begins an affair with an aristocratic heiress, Aimée's heart is broken and tensions threaten to also break the Four Devils apart, forever.

The Four Devils is a short novella from one of Denmark's most acclaimed writers.

Part of the Very Short Classics series, a collection of short books from around the world and across the centuries, many of which are being made available as ebooks for the very first time.
