A strange message arrives unexpectedly in Washington promising Greg Tapscott “the truth” of what really happened to his uncle, Paul, an OSS agent missing since World War II.

In hopes of finally settling the question, Greg flies to La Rochelle, France, a millennium ago  the main Atlantic port of the mysterious Knights Templar, alleged Guardians of the Holy Grail.

Once there, he finds that Paul apparently did uncover the true Grail—which was a target also of the Nazi “Occult Bureau” in its pursuit of occult and paranormal powers.

But the Grail Paul found is not the cup of legend, not a blood-line, but rather the “most powerful force—or, potentially, weapon -- ever known, waiting to be tapped . . . for good or evil”.

What was that “force”?  Apparently secrets hidden away for a millennium by the Knights Templar: secrets  of accessing dormant powers of the human mind,  secrets sought by the alchemists, then by the Nazis . . . now by an emerging “army” of world-wide aimless, angry young people led by Twisted Messiah, a Satanic international superstar  rock group with political ambitions and occult dimensions.

Now they're pursing Greg and what he turned up.
