"The Great American Pastime" is an effort to understand those of us who still love the great game of Major League Baseball as told through an obviously fictional account of a modern player who is thrust back to the 1950's "Golden Era" of the game. Though fictional, each account is actually a collection of true baseball stories, similar to a James Michenor style of writing, however much shorter.
Each chapter is opened with a quote that is "played out" in the succeeding paragraphs.
Woven into the story are several aspects of the game, such as lists of "unbreakable records", "unwritten rules", "fabulous nicknames", and over 100 hillarious quotes and other insights that all add up to why some of us are still in love with the game.
It has been described by one sportswriter as my "love letter to the game of baseball"
That pretty well sums up the content.
