This book concerns the merging of the Hamilton and Mathiesen family and their ancestry, beginning with my parent’s marriage in 1910. The Hamilton ancestry dates back to the time of the Saxons in the year 215, through the historical Charlemagne Holy Roman Emperor (742-814), Richard the Fearless of Normandy (933-1035), Saher De Quincy (1155-1219), who was a signer of the Magna Carte, Robert de Bruce of Scotland (1200s), through Kings and Queens of Normandy, England, France, and Scotland. The Mathiesen family history dates from the 1600s in Denmark and Norway to their immigration to America. They were one of the first settlers in Wisconsin. This book tells of the travels and trials of my parents from Wisconsin to Arkansas by covered wagon in 1915, hoping to find a land of “milk and honey.” They encountered many rough roads and hardships after arriving there, where as a farmer, they eked out a living from the land. In my mother’s ninety-two years of life, she traveled by covered wagon, car, by jet airplane, across the United States and witnessed television, computers, and the astronaut’s travel to the moon, which indicates how fast changes have taken place.
