John Harder was born in Kitchener, Ontario and graduated from London College of Bible and Missions. Married to Audrey Seymour, they served five years as church planters in Argentina with the Evangelical Union of South America. John was then appointed as Canadian Director. The mission merged with Gospel Missionary Union and today is known as Avant Ministries. He served in that role until his retirement, having visited thirty countries on four continents. A clear sense of divine calling led to his beginning a ministry in Cuba, where since retirement he has taken small teams forty times, helping Baptist churches there.
“There are very few people who are more certain of their calling, more committed to their task, and more confident of God’s clear direction in life than my friend and mentor John Harder. He loves the Spanish language and cares deeply about spiritual ministry to people. So fittingly his ministry life is bookended by Argentina at the beginning and Cuba toward the end with over thirty years of mission administration in between. When others might want to move into a well-deserved retirement and enjoy golf and other leisure pursuits, John began a new ministry focus to help spiritually vibrant, but materially poor churches in Cuba.
The Hand of Heaven is a good read that lets you journey with my dear friend and be encouraged as you see over and over just how clearly God has led and worked through him.”
—Grant Morrison, Executive Director, Avant Ministries Canada, Winnipeg, Manitoba
