From the time he entered school, Jean-Paul Desrosiers had the difficult task of explaining his name and helping with its pronunciation. He would stress that his name was Jean (Xon) not like the jeans you wear but more like Jean in Jean-Paul Sartre, the French philosopher. The more he was teased, the more he felt that his explanation would enlighten his friends. One day, as Bobby the bus driver was listening to yet another long explanation, he said, Well just call you J.P. and you could tell people that it stands for Junior Philosopher.

The name stuck and he developed into the character of a junior philosopher explaining and questioning. When his teachers appeared to have no faith in his abilities as a student, he had to ask his grandfather why.
