This is a guidebook for a two-day, one-night trek to see the forest around Mt. Kumotori (雲取山). If you climb to the top of Mt. Kumotori in Tokyo, on a clear day, you can see all the way to Mt. Fuji.

Mt. Kumotori is:
* Located in Japan on the border of Tokyo (東京), Saitama (埼玉) and Yamanashi (山梨) Prefectures. Google Maps
* The highest mountain in Tokyo, and its peak is 2017 meters (6617 feet) above sea level.
* Part of Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park (秩父多摩甲斐国立公園).
* Was named one of the 100 best mountains in Japan.

There are several trekking trails around the mountain. This guidebook introduces international tourists to one of the most highly recommended paths.
This trail goes thorough a well maintained and beautiful forest which contains a primeval forest, thickets, coniferous forest zone, the mountain’s summit and a panoramic ridge path. If you like trekking in the wilderness, you are guaranteed to have a fun adventure.

This trail is not a sightseeing resort and not recommended for beginner hikers, because the entirety of the path is 21 km long, requires five hours of trekking each day and many of the trails are really steep. You will need sufficient outdoor equipment including trekking shoes, rain jacket / pants, quick dry clothes, food and water.
You should also have confidence in your physical strength. However, these trails are well maintained and relatively safe, except in the winter and early spring (end November - early May). You shouldn’t try to go to the mountain for a one-day trek.

We know that a lot of people want to go to the peak of Mt. Fuji from the 5th station, but it is only open for about two months during the summer, and is a mostly rugged area. If you would rather walk in a forest, I would recommend climbing Mt. Kumotori instead of Mt. Fuji. 

A recommended lodge and most of the trail signs unfortunately do not have English information. That’s why this guidebook is focused on giving you useful information with many pictures.
