This is a photographic record of the railways of Gloucestershire during a revolutionary period between 1959 and 1966. In 1959 steam power was still pre-eminent, branch lines were still operating and stations and halts were legion. By 1966 diesel power had usurped the steam locomotive, most branch lines were closed and only a small number of stations remained in use.
