When Eleanor Kent accepts the post as typist to a reclusive and very wealthy writer, Richard Lindford, she knows of the Lindford family only what she had read in magazines and newspapers. This, though, had not quite prepared Eleanor for what she finds at the impressive Lindford estate. Had Miranda truly run away because she could not stand a life with the 'Monster of Lindford' anymore, or was the dear little housekeeper, Martha, right and had Miranda in fact been murdered? But who then was the murderer? Could it possibly have been Richard in a fit of rage or jealousy? To have any hope of happiness, not only for herself but also for the other inhabitants of the Manor, Eleanor must find the truth and solve the mystery of Miranda's disappearance.
