In his days as a young seaman Stuart MacDonald dreamt of sailing away on his own, but a career at sea and later in business got in the way. Finally at the age of sixty four he quit work and set off from Scotland. With no fixed idea of how long he would be away, or how far he would get, he reaches the Caribbean and decides to head through the Panama Canal into the Pacific and on to New Zealand.
