There was in times past in the St. Lawrence Valley (Canada) a small village admired for its strict observance of Lent, a period of fast and abstinence. And that angered Satan who vowed to carry off his inhabitants before this example becomes widespread. To achieve his aim, he chose to go through the most pious man in the village, the blacksmith. He had only two weaknesses: his only daughter he loved above all…, and a violin that was described as a godsend.
