The Man with the Jar is an illustration of numerous current and urgent issues that Christians, Jews and Arabs are faced with today.

The author wonders whether there are no other more important matters to talk about at the conference tables before embarking on discussions about the European Union or striving for peace in the Middle East.

For instance:

- Is it possible for a united Germany to simply deny all responsibility regarding the past?

- Is God’s word no longer applicable in this regard where it says: “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse…?”

- And what about our joint responsibility regarding France which has passed on its nuclear knowledge to Israel after tests on Arab territory and in the Pacific?

- What dangerous (nuclear) developments will take place in Israel and the Arab states if the peace conference in the Middle East should fail?

Sheer political and economic interests should never be the only guiding principle when striving for unity and peace, says Dr. Leenhouts.

The author states that, right now, it is the responsibility of the Christians to follow ‘the man with the jar’. That is to say, to take to heart the prophetic directions that lead to the ‘Chamber of the Passover of the final times’, with the purpose of coming to celebrate the Lord’s Supper in unity. This, says Dr. Leenhouts, might be the alternative given by God by which Israel can come to its messianic destiny, and by which a world-wide catastrophe can be prevented.
