Following the series of fantastical events in The Park, Caris, David and Mike are desperate for more excitement. However, excitement eludes them, until they arrange a half-term trip to visit Caris’s aunt, who lives in the heart of Exmoor. Before long, a series of terrible incidents points towards an ominous presence lurking on the moor. As the three children head out to discover its secrets, they are caught up again in a frightening adventure, and find, before long, that they are being hunted by an ancient beast, which appears to have an unquenchable blood lust. Split up, and lost on the Moor, the children discover the true meaning of Dan’s promise to them in The Park, and the terrible purpose for which they themselves are destined. Caris, most of all, finds herself confronted with the most feared aspect of her personality, the loss of self-control – as an ancient old woman, who walks the moor helping and hindering in turn, guides her to the truth. Eventually, reunited with their ancient mentor, our three young warriors are forced to battle, once again, with those who would deny them everything, and take away all that is good and creative in the world.
The Moor is an exciting adventure for children aged nine to ninety. It is the second book in the series that follows the adventures of David and his friends, and it is recommended that the first book, The Park, is read prior to reading The Moor.
