When Gibson goes to the store one day he spots an old man sitting on a bench nearby. Gibson is fascinated that the old man has a crutch. He wonders why, and sits near to the bench to have a closer look. The old man tells him about a dreadful experience he had, that left him very badly injured. Now, for the rest of his life, he has to use the crutch to help him to walk. Without being asked, he tells Gibson the story about how it happened.

When the old man’s story ends, Gibson runs to tell his friends in a nearby field, how a lion ripped the old man's leg so badly that he has to use a crutch for the rest of his life. The friends all go back with Gibson, to see the remarkable old man.

What a surprise they got when they reached the store, to see the store keeper holding onto an old man tightly and shouting, “This man is a thief!” Gibson was shocked when he recognised the old man. He got even more of a surprise when the old man dashed past them without his crutch and disappeared into the bush.
