Over the last ten years, the Lord has moved many to serve children in the world’s Orphan Window. From adoptive families, to people going on mission trips, to parachurch ministries facilitating orphan care, to local churches caring for kids, the Orphan Awakening has reached a tipping point. As more of us engage in this change movement, our expectations require change. Orphan care is not about one way physical child care. Or rescue. Or ending poverty. Something more significant of God but less valued by our world is happening. Orphan care is about the process of life change. The Lord has supercharged the Orphan Window with a particularly potent strain of Christ. He’s using the world’s most discarded kids not as causes, but as catalysts of spiritual change. In the bottommost zone of humankind, we see the beginning of a movement: a global Orphan Awakening. If we’ll open our eyes fully, and look beyond the world’s limited view that the end of others’ physical poverty is the only legitimate aim of our service, then we’ll see our ripe opportunity more clearly. The Orphan Report is my contribution to this effort.
