The Pelican King begins on an island born of ancient volcanic activity. Taal is the son of the island king and is nearly a man in the eyes of his village family. He will discover that his home of sand and sea life is but a small part of a world that is soon to reach his tropical native land.
Dr Joseph Adler, a botanist, reluctantly finds himself at sea a defenseless victim against the evils of alcohol and greed. A father’s hand shapes the destiny of his son, hope and faith are purchased by loss, evil is defeated as honor and catastrophe are the sponsors of a new beginning.
Within the pages the main characters are introduced and the foundation laid that leads to a collision of two very different worlds. In one realm order, respect and superstition breathe life into a tiny but ancient culture, safe and apart. An Island fortresses bordered by salt water, its guardian’s are kings of the sea in their own right as winged fishers watching diligently over their human subjects. The other world is almost unknown to the islanders. Faced with the specters of greed and violence Taal and his father, King Lija, will face adversity beyond anything they could dream of.
The Pelican King is in many ways more than a “coming of age” story. It is a love story anchored by a father's desire to raise his child with the tools that a young man needs to meet life head on. It is a story of sacrifice as childhood washes away with the tide and adulthood is forged in the waves and current of day to day existence. The main characters race toward each other as their dispositions, personalities and individual natures become evident and finally tuned.
I truly hope you like it and desire to read the book in its entirety.
