It was 2001 when I heard that there was a good osteopath from Sassariworking in Rome.As my youngest daughter Alessandra had a serious problem of scoliosis (in a year she had grown by almost half a metre and at the age of thirteenhad already reached one metre eighty), after carrying out all the tests necessary and consulting colleagues who were experts in the field, I decidedto take her to this osteopath. That was when I met Gavino Scanu and very soon we had become good friends. It was really fascinating to see him working and it was even more so to see the rapid improvements that his precious hands managed to bring about.I knew nothing of the various massage techniques, except at a very superficiallevel, and while I listened to Gavino telling me about certain methods that he used in his therapies, I was becoming aware of the need to create a link with some of them to arrive at my aims: to find ways of slowing down the ageing process. So we began to work together on this problem and to seek the scientificrationale that could explain the reason for certain positive effects. For various months we met up frequently after dinner after our day’swork and we had a very pleasant time, discussing everything for hourswith great enthusiasm. We coined the name PRALD, and we presented it officially to the Pressat the beginning of 2003. At the same time, we held a theoretical and practical course on the method at a prestigious thermal centre, with doctorsand physiotherapists, who had used the method with success.I decided to propose to the Faculty council that we insert PRALD asa teaching subject, naturally held by Prof. Gavino Scanu, in the Masterscourse in Aesthetic Medicine at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”,which I have the honour of coordinating. In my new book Medicine of the Third Millennium I have dedicated achapter to PRALD, which I consider to be an integral part of treatmentsindicated against ageing. In anti-ageing medicine, prevention interventions and treatment make use of various non-invasive methods and not necessarily pharmacological. One of these is PRALD, which acts at the same time on four of the eight districts that are most sensitive to ageing: cerebral, immune, corporeal and musculo-skeletal, improving functions and equilibrium.Best whishes to Gavino, with great estee and affection, and may this book bring to the knowledge of everyone the method of PRALD, which in my opinion is really extraordinary.Prof. Gianluigi BertuzziCoordinator of the Masters course in Aesthetic MedicineUniversity of Rome "Tor Vergata"
