As a counselor, for the last 24 years, I have had to deal with this one issue countless of times. I have been blessed by God to be able to help many persons come to a healthy understanding of forgiveness, what it means, what it accomplishes, the consequences and the results when done right. On the other hand, I have also seen the results of ill-understood principles regarding forgiveness. Many have been the persons who have come to my office still struggling with an area of their lives where they believed that there should have been resolution after allegedly forgiving someone else. People are taught about forgiveness in many different ways. Too many times though, these teachings are actually little more than the emotional opinions of people with self-serving agendas or predetermined definitions that they will not give up even when they see the lack of success in their “process” for forgiveness. My goal in this writing is to provide the person who hurts with, I hope, a clear explanation of why we do what we do, and feel how we feel, after we’ve been hurt by others, and especially what to do about it. The Bible is an excellent source on the subject of healing. Not just that God (or Jesus) can heal, but how the regular Christian, the very day “Joe” believer can start to function in the power of God to overcome this crippling malady of perpetual emotional trauma and be healed. What you will learn in these pages has been a real source of encouragement to me. I learned and used this very same process to gain my healing. I know that it will help you too, if you are ready to let go of the pain and anger, to be healed.
