The present structures of public information in Pakistan were created more on the basis of their technologies than their intended functions. The long gaps between their creations also had their impact. The prevailing conditions too had their influence. The result is that the Federal Government ended up with a conglomeration of structures that lack economy, coordination and effectiveness.
The major structures under the umbrella of the Ministry of Information and Media Development of the Federal Government are:
a) Pakistan TV and Shalimar Recording & Broadcasting Co. Ltd
b) Radio Pakistan
c) Associated Press of Pakistan
d) Press Information Department
e) Institute of Regional Studies
f) Directorate General of Films and Publications
Their restructuring will be discussed in the following chapters.
In the second part of the book, various laws relating to public information have been analyzed and amendments have been suggested.
