Does the opportunity of a Broadway career trump domesticity?
Wendy Holcomb is a happily married mother of a college bound daughter, and enjoys a comfortable life living in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. All is well until her career begins to create numerous problems in her otherwise well-ordered life. Wendy has spent the past two years studying with an acting coach, taking theater classes and has enjoyed bit parts in the local playhouse near her home and has aspirations of Broadway, however, it never enters her mind that at age forty and with little experience this could happen.
When the director of the local Playhouse recommends her to a colleague on Broadway, she is offered an audition which will require a move from small town Cape Elizabeth to New York City. Wendy could not be more thrilled but her exhilaration is dampened by complaints and protests from her daughter and husband who resent having a part-time mom and wife. Wendy feels they just want her to be the stay-at-home June Cleaver type and ignores them. Headstrong, she is determined to fulfill her dream of a Broadway career.
She secures the part, but her marriage begins to deteriorate and her husband gives her an ultimatum. The question is: will she shun domesticity and family life for a chance on Broadway, or walk away from the opportunity of a lifetime?Amidst it all, a family crisis involving her daughter further complicates matters to where she is forced to choose.
