The Roald Amundsen Anthology: “The Gjoa Expedition 1903-07”, and “The South Pole, an Account of the Norwegian Antarctic Expedition in the Fram 1910-1912”.
In this Anthology are combined the accounts of both of Amundsen’s two most momentous journeys of exploration; the first successful navigation of the legendary “North West Passage” in 1903-07, and his victory in the race to be the first man to reach the South Pole in 1910-12.
Amundsen’s drive and determination, alongside his skills as a navigator and his abilities to prepare successful expeditions, and also his capacity to improvise solutions when in difficulty, combine to make him one of the most intrepid and successful explorers the World has ever seen.
The two books contained in this one volume are both his personal accounts, supplemented with some chapters from members of his expeditions, or prefaces from the likes of Fridtjof Nansen – Amundsen’s illustrious mentor. Both books are enriched by genuine photography from each of the actual expeditions (The South pole in Particular), adding another dimension to the reader’s appreciation of the incredible events that are explained.
