The Nazis are about to lose the war and Hitler orders all the stolen treasures taken from occupied countries to be taken to a secret place where it can be stored and used later to fund a second attempt at world domination.
The location of this place is in the form of map located inside a secret compartment at the center of a gold shield. The gold is made from jewellery, teeth filling taken from Jewish prisoners of war. Around the shield's perimeter are golden daggers which when inserted release the hidden compartment. Any attempt to force open the compartment releases a vile of acid that will destroy the map.
The daggers were to be distributed amongst Hitler's most trusted generals, but they fall into the hands of English mercenaries who are behind enemy lines and out to make a profit before the war ends, during the bombing of Dresden. Each soldier is ignorant of what they possess and the shield is left behind in the confusion.
Over the next 25 years, each mercenary is hunted down in England and murdered and each dagger retrieved. Throughout MOSSAD is on the trail of the mystery killer believing he/she knows the whereabouts of the stolen artifacts taken mainly from the Jewish people.
New Scotland Yard police detective, Philip Graves is too late to help the last of the mercenaries, but is drawn into investigating the reasons for his death and then past events. His investigations eventually take him back to East Germany, Dresden to find the missing treasure with MOSSAD agent Anna Berkovitch.
The chase ends at the base of the Elbe mountains outside Dresden, beneath Königstein Fortress, the secret hiding place of the stolen Nazi treasure. There Graves and Anna discover the grandson of the museum curator killed by the English mercenaries decades earlier, out for revenge and the treasure.
