This book follows on from The Fishermen of Port Isaac, and deals with the other sea going activities of the men of Port Isaac, Port Gaverne and Port Quin. It includes details of the hardship endured during the nineteenth century, and a fascinating chapter on Port Quin which gives a unique insight into the disaster which occurred there many years ago. Characters were very tough in those days, indeed life on sailing vessels and fishing craft bred a closeness of community and spirit which cannot be rivalled today. I pay tribute to these men and their women folk who suffered so much loss of life and hardship. Subjects covered include; the sailing ship trade and Port Gaverne, Port Quin and its disaster, the old Port Isaac wooden lifeboat, wrecks and wrecking; yachting, smuggling and piracy, more Port Isaac characters, and a list of masters and mates. This book contains 162 historic photos to illustrate the text. This book was nominated for an award by the Holyer an Gof Cornish Book Awards.
