A classic horseracing tale from an Australian legend. Banjo Paterson is best remembered for his brilliant Australian bush poetry, but no less engaging are his warm and funny novels about Australian life. The Shearer's Colt is the story of Hilton Fitzroy, an upper-class Londoner trying to find his feet in the frontier state of Queensland. He falls into the job of 'seckitary' for Red Fred, a shearer who struck it lucky in the gold mines and now wants help spending his millions...No writer captured the heart of early Australia better than Paterson - the motley characters, the blinding outback heat and the irreverent spirit that endures to this day.

Andrew Barton "Banjo" Paterson (17 February 1864 - 5 February 1941) was an Australian bush poet, journalist and author. He wrote many ballads and poems about Australian life, focusing particularly on the rural and outback areas, including the district around Binalong, New South Wales where he spent much of his childhood. Paterson's more notable poems include "Waltzing Matilda", "The Man from Snowy River" and "Clancy of the Overflow".
