The Sermon on the Mount is very much more than a sermon. Mr. Davis argues that it characterizes the core principles for those who would be disciples of Christ. Specifically, The Sermon on the Mount argues that its thesis is that God calls people to voluntarily repent of sins and too voluntarily accept the responsibility for complying with what Jesus calls the righteousness that surpasses the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees apart from which no one can expect to attain to the Kingdom of Heaven. Davis argues that the application of Christs principles is grounded in the fundamental reality that Sin is inherently dysfunctional and the only remedy is repudiating dysfunction and complying with holiness. Davis further argues that to comply with holiness must begin in character transformation such that the Kingdom disciple performs righteous deeds from a righteous character.
