In this book, described in the New York Times Book Review as "a timely new novel", Western intelligence meets Islamic fundamentalism.
A terror attack is being planned by an ISIS-related cell hidden in France. Two experienced intelligence officers have identified signs of suspicious activity. Sophisticated software and extensive analysis enable the officers to identify the probable target and likely method of attack. The cell must be found and the attack prevented.
Follow Dr Anne Davis, a capable and strong-willed CIA counter-terrorism agent, as she works with the French security services. Anne has been seconded to DCRI, France's equivalent of the CIA, as part of the security assistance provided by the USA to France after the Charlie Hebdo and Bataclan terror attacks. She works with Rene Sharen, head of DCRI counter-terrorism. Rene can be a difficult personality, but he does appreciate the skills and insight Anne brings to their efforts to identify and locate the terrorists.
Together, Anne and Rene analyse the clues that enable them to determine what it is the terrorists may be planning. It appears to be a form of attack not seen before, intended to raise terror levels in the West. Anne develops a plan to counter the terrorists, hoping to avoid the potential death and injury likely to result if the attack they anticipate does occur.
After launching their attack, the terrorists want to get out of France as quickly as possible. They follow a pre-arranged escape plan. Unknown to the Syrian national named Aashiq Ahad, who is the leader of the terror cell, Anne Davis and Rene Sharen are closing in. They have found the escape route Ahad is using. Now they want to track him, and locate him, before he gets back to Syria and disappears.
Expect some surprises as the attack unfolds, and the hunt and chase develop.
