In 1969, an unlocked gate would change the McGee family forever.
Following the accidental death of the youngest daughter in 1969, the McGee family faces the devastation that often overwhelms a family over the next decade. The parents are wracked by anger, guilt, denial and not surprisingly, end up in survival mode. The surviving children deal with growing up as best they can, leaning on each other and finding their own way, even if it's sometimes the wrong way. Each McGee has to make a decision; either to succumb to the tragedy through destructive behaviors, or to claw their way out of the hole towards the light.
This coming-of-age story takes place during a pivotal year in the life of the eldest daughter, Terri McGee. It is set in the far south side of Chicago in the late 1970's amid racial unrest and an emerging drug epidemic.
